Personal Development & Wellbeing Coaching Policy

This policy explains the purpose, boundaries, ethical commitments, privacy practices, and client responsibilities that guide Robert Obiri’s personal-development coaching conversations.

1. Purpose and status

This policy is intended to create clarity, dignity, trust, and responsible boundaries. It draws on widely recognised coaching ethics and Ghanaian data-protection principles. It is Robert Obiri’s own practice policy and does not claim membership, accreditation, certification, or endorsement by the International Coaching Federation or any clinical professional body.

2. What coaching may cover

Coaching conversations may support values clarification, personal goals, confidence-building, decision-making, communication, leadership growth, career reflection, habits, accountability, and intentional living. The client remains responsible for their choices, actions, wellbeing, and results.

Coaching does not include diagnosis or treatment of mental-health conditions, clinical assessment, medical advice, legal advice, financial advice, or promises that a particular result will occur.

3. Informed agreement

Before an engagement begins, the coach and client should agree on the purpose, format, duration, communication method, fees where applicable, cancellation terms, privacy expectations, record-keeping, and the responsibilities of each party. Either person may request a review of the agreement or end the engagement in accordance with the agreed terms.

4. Confidentiality and its limits

Information shared in coaching will be treated as private and will not be disclosed without the client’s permission, except where disclosure is required by applicable law, agreed with the client, needed to protect against a serious and immediate safety concern, or necessary under an agreed safeguarding process.

If an organisation sponsors coaching, the client and sponsor should agree in advance on what may be reported. Session details will not be shared merely because another party pays for the engagement.

5. Scope, competence, and referral

Robert will work only within the limits of his training, experience, and role. If a need appears to require clinical, medical, legal, safeguarding, or another specialist service, the coaching work may be paused or ended and the client may be encouraged to contact an appropriately qualified professional or relevant service.

A referral is not a judgement about the client. It is a responsible recognition that different needs require different forms of expertise.

6. Safeguarding and younger clients

Any engagement involving a person under 18 requires appropriate parent or guardian consent, clear safeguarding arrangements, age-appropriate communication, and careful agreement about confidentiality. Robert may decline or end an engagement where the necessary safeguards, competence, or support arrangements are not available.

7. Privacy and personal data

Only information reasonably necessary for enquiries, scheduling, coaching delivery, feedback, payment administration where applicable, and legal or safeguarding responsibilities should be collected. Personal information should be used for a stated purpose, kept reasonably accurate, protected with appropriate measures, retained only as necessary, and not sold.

Clients may ask what personal information is held about them and may request correction or deletion where applicable. Website forms may be processed by the hosting, scheduling, email, or form services used to operate the site. Sensitive personal information should not be submitted through public comment forms.

8. Respect, inclusion, and autonomy

Clients will be treated with dignity and respect regardless of background, identity, belief, disability, or circumstance. Coaching should support the client’s agency rather than create dependence. The coach will not pressure a client to adopt the coach’s personal values, beliefs, or preferred life choices.

9. Professional boundaries and conflicts

Any actual or potential conflict of interest, dual role, power imbalance, referral benefit, or relevant personal relationship should be disclosed and discussed. Where a conflict cannot be managed responsibly, the engagement may be declined or ended.

10. Honest communication and no guarantees

Qualifications, experience, services, fees, and likely benefits will be described honestly. Coaching outcomes depend on many factors, including the client’s decisions and circumstances; no outcome, income, promotion, relationship change, health improvement, or other result is guaranteed.

11. Notes, testimonials, and public stories

Any working notes should be limited to what is useful and handled securely. A client’s name, testimonial, image, case example, or identifying story will not be published without specific permission. Permission may be withdrawn for future use, subject to material already lawfully published or required records.

12. Feedback and concerns

Questions, accessibility needs, privacy requests, or concerns about a coaching engagement may be sent to robertjamal12@gmail.com. Concerns will be considered respectfully, documented where appropriate, and addressed without retaliation.

13. Review of this policy

This policy may be updated as the practice develops, professional guidance changes, or legal requirements are clarified. The effective date at the top of the page will be updated when a material revision is made.
